Design Examples Work-Through for Helical Anchors

A presentation of stepped-through design examples from the initial estimation of a building structural loads, to the final checks that check pile capacity. The presentation will serve to supplement the design examples that are in the CHANCE Technical Design Manual, but in a more conversational, fluid manner that should be useful for both Engineers looking to design Helical Elements, and Installation Contractors looking to install them who want to have a more innate understanding of the process of design.

Hollow-Bar Installation and Design 101

Co-Presented with John Patterson of WORD Rock Drills

An informative discussion on the principles of installation and design of Magnacore Hollow-Bar Micropiles, co-presented with John Patterson from WORD Rock Drills. The topics discussed will include things such as the equipment and components required for hollow-bar micropile installation, steps of installation, driller tips and tricks, and design calculations for hollow bar elements for support of vertical and horizontal applications (tiebacks/soil nails).

Brief introduction to slopes, tiebacks, and soil nails. Will include some design concepts, software overview, and typical construction.

Discussion of the design, setup, and different methods of performing vertical and lateral load testing per established methodologies. The topic for the webinar will be a basic introduction to Load Testing that is typically performed for helicals and micropiles. The speaker will address testing equipment components, installation/test setup, performance of several types of tests, and general procedures for analyzing the tests for acceptance.

The presentation covers the general grout mixing principles for the installation and design of our Helical Pulldown Micropiles and Hollow Bar Micropiles.
