TIP Description
This TIP is intended to instruct on the steps of how to assemble a soil nail load test.
List 1:
- 1. Place an initial alignment plate to ensure the plate is perpendicular to the rod.
a. If horizontal, this step will not be needed - 2. Place hollow load jack over the bar and ensure hoses are properly configured.
- 3. Place a load plate and nut on top of load jack.
- 4. Attach dial gauges to tripods
a. Dial gauges will either need to be clamped down or will connect
magnetically to a reference frame independent of the wall.
b. Minimum of two dial gauges should be placed on opposite corners of the load plate to measure an average movement of the pile. - 5.Load jack to alignment load
a. This is the zero reference point on movement. Movement is measured as a change from the alignment load - 6. Record dial gauges readings at each load step and hold time required per project specs.
