Helical Piles

Chance Helical Piles

Hubbell Power Systems, Inc. (HPS) acquired CHANCE in 1994. Today, industry leading earth anchoring brands CHANCE and Atlas Resistance are used worldwide to secure residential and commercial buildings, tower foundations, heavy equipment foundations and many other deep foundation applications.

Engineered for dependability and long-term stability, CHANCE foundation solutions feature exclusive anchoring techniques, tools, designs and sizes that improve the efficiency and durability of foundation solutions.

CHANCE Helical Pile systems are used to transfer load weight to bearing “helix” plates located in stable soil/strata. The CHANCE helical pile system brings an economical solution to underpinning systems. Fast, predictable, and measurable are just three advantages of this building code evaluated and accepted method.

Helical Pile Uses

Foundation Repair

Selected by load requirements and soil conditions, our systems offer capacities ranging to 120,000 pounds for each pile. CHANCE certified installers are thoroughly trained and certified in installation procedures and are supported by our extensive technical-support services and backed by our 30-Year Transferable Limited Product Warranty.

CHANCE Helical Pier Foundation Repair Advantages

New Construction

CHANCE® helical foundation systems for new construction are designed, tested and proven for applications in expansive soils, high water tables, fill areas and other areas where unstable soils require piling. CHANCE helical pile systems reach competent soil below active zone, are predictable via torque-to-capacity correlation, do not require excavation or spoils to prepare site, will accept loads immediately and install in limited access areas in most weather conditions. CHANCE deep foundation systems provide high capacity solutions to stop the settling and cracking of commercial and industrial structures.

Advantages

CHANCE Instant Foundations can be immediately loaded once installation is complete, resulting in higher productivity rates per crew and reduced installation costs. These foundations are a soil displacement system that requires no drilled holes or removal of spoils. The lighter weight of this system, typically weighing between 130 to 215 pounds, reduces shipping costs and allows the use of smaller installation equipment, typically a skid steer loader or small excavator.

CHANCE underpinning brackets are used to stabilize or lift foundations in distress. The CHANCE pre-engineered and underpinning system has been evaluated and listed by all the national building code agencies.

CHANCE Helical Pile Installation Process

Upon receipt of the plan of repair from a qualified design group or individual, the certified installer proceeds with the repair. One of the best investments you can make is to get a soil boring on your property. This will enable the designer to determine what type of anchor and to what depth it must go to reach stable soil.

The installer will typically need to excavate an access hole at each anchor location to accommodate the placement of an underpinning bracket under the foundation at each pier location. The leading section of the anchor with the proper number and size of helices is installed by a rotary anchor drive machine.

Extensions are added to the pile until the appropriate depth is reached and the predetermined torque is achieved. At the point in which the bracket is attached to the foundation, the load is transferred to the anchor, stabilizing the building and allowing for lift, as according to the plan of repair.

Helical Piers

The helical pier is a deep foundation system used to support or resist settlement of a foundation.

Underpinning

Underpinning systems are used to transfer a load of the structure to bearing “helix” plates located in stable soil/strata. Intech’s underpinning systems offer fast, predictable, and measurable results and are building code–evaluated and accepted systems.

Helical Tiebacks

Tieback anchors are horizontal elements used to reinforce or “tieback” a retaining wall, basement foundation wall, or earth shoring wall such as sheet piling.

Soil Screws

A Soil Screw consists of a CHANCE helical anchor, where a helical end-bearing plate is welded to a central steel shaft acting as a large-scale ‘earth screw’ that is drilled into lateral soil walls for support.

Pulldown Micropiles

The CHANCE Helical Pulldown Micropile is a system that combines the use of a grout column around the shaft of a Helical Pile Foundation System.
