WHEN HELICAL PILES ARE USED

Helical Pile systems are used to transfer load weight to bearing “helix” plates located in stable soil/strata.  The Intech helical pile system brings an economical solution to underpinning systems. Fast, predictable, and measurable are just three advantages of this building code evaluated and accepted method.

BUILDING FOUNDATIONS ✅

Helical piles are often used to support building foundations, particularly in areas where the soil is weak or unstable. They provide a strong, stable base for the building to rest on, ensuring that it remains secure and stable over time.

RETAINING WALLS ✅

Helical piles can also be used to support retaining walls, which are structures designed to hold back soil and prevent erosion. By providing a stable base for the retaining wall, helical piles help to ensure that it remains secure and effective over time.

SLOPE STABILIZATION✅

In areas where the soil is prone to erosion or landslides, helical piles can be used to stabilize slopes and prevent further damage. By providing a strong, stable base for the soil, helical piles help to prevent erosion and keep the slope secure.

UTILITY INSTALLATIONS✅

Helical piles can also be used to support utility installations, such as power lines or pipelines. By providing a stable base for these installations, helical piles help to ensure that they remain secure and functional over time, even in areas with weak or unstable soil.

NEW CONSTRUCTION ✅

Helical piles are revolutionizing new construction foundations with their unmatched reliability and versatility. These galvanized steel piles provide exceptional torsion capacity, lateral movement resistance, and uplift support. Compliant with uplift requirements and superior to concrete, they ensure stability even in soft or flood-prone soils.

ADVANTAGES OF USING HELICAL PILES

ADVANTAGES OF USING HELICAL ANCHORS

HELICAL ANCHOR INSTALLATION

A helical anchor is used to resist tensile loading. For these tension-only anchors, square shaft helical anchors are the logical choice. The helical anchor is segmented with helical bearing plates welded to a central steel square shaft.

The load is transferred through the shaft to the soil through the bearing plates. Anchors are coupled together with couplings, and the only limits to installation depth for these anchors are soil conditions such as density.

Since the plates are helical, they do not auger but rather screw into the soil with minimal disturbance. Helical bearing plates have a standard 3″ pitch and are spaced at far enough distances that they bear load independently of one another; therefore, the load capacity of one is not influenced by adjacent plates.

WHY USE HELICAL PILES FROM INTECH ANCHORING?

  • No heavy equipment required
  • Capable of instant loading
  • Known holing capacity at time of installation
  • Quick installation
  • Lower costs
  • Time-proven engineered system
  • Installs in limited-access areas
  • Limited excavation required
  • No concrete required

SUSTAINABLE HELICAL SOLUTION

IDEAL Foundation Products manufactures ICC-ES evaluated helicals, made with 98% recycled American 80 KSI steel and integral forged couplings. The line features a more traditional small diameter square shaft (1.5” and 1.75” – up to 70 kips) or round pipe (2 7/8” to 5.5” OD – up to 235 kips). These piles can also be grouted to achieve higher loads, increase lateral capacity, eliminate buckling concerns, or protect the steel. In addition, IDEAL manufactures large diameter piles up to 20” OD with up to 500 tons of capacity.

Intech Anchoring Systems proudly provides IDEAL helical piles and other deep foundations solutions.

THE HELICAL PILE INSTALLATION PROCESS

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE INSTALLATION OF HELICAL PILES

Upon receipt of the plan of repair from a qualified design group or individual, the certified installer proceeds with the repair. One of the best investments a homeowner can make is to get a soil boring on their property. This will enable the designer to determine what type of anchor and to what depth it must go to reach stable soil.

The installer will typically need to excavate an access hole at each anchor location to accommodate the placement of an underpinning bracket under the foundation at each pier location. The leading section of the anchor with the proper number and size of helices is installed by a rotary anchor drive machine.

Extensions are added to the pile until the appropriate depth is reached and the predetermined torque is achieved. At the point in which the bracket is attached to the foundation, the load is transferred to the anchor, stabilizing the building and allowing for lift, as according to the plan of repair.

INTRODUCING IDEAL HELICAL PILES

INTECH Anchoring Systems is proud to partner with local manufacturers for top-tier helical pile distribution.  Partnering with INTECH gives you the benefit of knowing your foundation is secure as well as the following advantages:

Versatile Installation: Helical piles can be installed at various angles, making them adaptable to different types of structures.

Cost-Effective: Compared to driven or drilled piles, helical piles require less depth to achieve the same capacity, making them a more economical choice.

Ideal for Limited-Access Areas: Helical piles are well-suited for low-headroom areas and other spaces with limited access.

Environmentally-Friendly: Helical piles do not require extensive earthwork or spoil material removal, which is especially beneficial in contaminated areas.

Easy to Cut Off: Helical piles are easy to cut off, allowing for quick and efficient installation.

No Concrete-Related Delays: Unlike other types of piles, helical piles do not require concrete, which can cause delays in the installation process.

GROUTED HELICAL MICROPILE

The IDEAL Grouted Helical Micropile is a system that combines the use of a grout column around the shaft of a Helical Pile Foundation System.

HELICAL TIEBACKS

Tieback anchors are horizontal elements used to reinforce or “tieback” a retaining wall or  foundation wall.

SOIL SCREWS

A Soil Screw consists of a  helical anchor, where a helical end-bearing plate is welded to a central steel shaft acting as a large-scale ‘earth screw’ that is drilled into lateral soil walls for support.

UNDERPINNING

Underpinning systems are used to transfer a load of the structure to bearing “helix” plates located in stable soil/strata.
