TIP Description

This TIP is intended to instruct on the steps of how to assemble a soil nail load test.

List 1:

  1. 1. Place an initial alignment plate to ensure the plate is perpendicular to the rod.
    a. If horizontal, this step will not be needed
  2. 2. Place hollow load jack over the bar and ensure hoses are properly configured.
  3. 3. Place a load plate and nut on top of load jack.
  4. 4. Attach dial gauges to tripods
    a. Dial gauges will either need to be clamped down or will connect
magnetically to a reference frame independent of the wall.

    b. Minimum of two dial gauges should be placed on opposite corners of the load plate to measure an average movement of the pile.
  5. 5.Load jack to alignment load
    a. This is the zero reference point on movement. Movement is measured as a change from the alignment load
  6. 6. Record dial gauges readings at each load step and hold time required per project specs.
